Polyethylene Film , the world's most widely used polymer materials, the ethylene polymerization, according to the density were divided into high density polyethylene, medium density polyethylene and low density polyethylene.
Polyethylene films are the most common type of plastic, and an environmentally friendly alternative to PVC. Offering flexibility, conformability, and excellent chemical resistance, these films are used in a range of applications from surface protection to packaging to application tape. Polyethylene film is available with or without adhesive and various grades of densities. Polyethylene film is the primary material for polyethylene tape, which used as backing, and other material is adhesive or rubber used as primer. Adhesive can be used both side of the films.
Polyethylene tape consists of two parts:
1. Adhesive: Inner layer of butyl rubber
2. Backing: Outer layer of polyethylene (PE) plastic
Polyethylene tapes can be of several types:
Cold applied coating adhesive tape: Polyethylene is used as the base material, which is coated by the liquid butyl rubber film, both of which are pressed and compounded. It is mainly used on underground, underwater and overhead pipelines. This tape provides a permanent bond to the primed steel pipes' surface and provides protection against chemical electrolytic corrosion for underground and off-shore pipelines.
Polyethylene adhesive tape: This is made of polyethylene film heat laminated with an adhesive layer of butyl glue. It is extensively used in the pipework of oil and natural gas transportation, petrochemical industry, electric power, metallurgy, and urban natural gas network pipes.
Low density polyethylene film tape: synthetic rubber-based adhesive remains permanently tacky and bonds well to most surfaces over a wide range of temperatures, with excellent low temperature bond. Tough polyethylene backings offer good abrasion and tear resistance. It is highly conformable, waterproof and resistant to chemical deterioration.
Polyethylene tape can be used for:
1. General sealing of containers and irregularly shaped objects
2. Electroplating and PC board masking
3. Silicon chip holding
4. Decoration, safety marking and color coding
5. Nuclear power plant construction and maintenance (because of low chloride and halogen content)
6. Corrosion-sensitive applications (because of low chloride and halogen content)
7. Outdoor applications of sealing, protecting, and preserving
8. Polyethylene tape is flexible, abrasion- and chemical-resistant and easy to clean.
